Elephant Park – Brooksby Balconies and Euro Quality Coatings Collaboration
Elephant Park is a ground-breaking £2.5 billion, 28-acre redevelopment project located in the heart of London’s Elephant and Castle. The project, a Lendlease and Southwark Council partnership, aims to deliver not only new homes but also substantial social value and sustainability to the community. A key aspect of this project involved providing high-quality offsite-manufactured balconies for key apartment buildings within Elephant Park.
The Challenge
Brooksby partnered with Euro Quality Coatings (EQC) to ensure that the balconies for Elephant Park received top-quality powder coating finishes. EQC provided powder coating services in both red and green, meeting the project’s design and aesthetic requirements.
Project Impact:
Brooksby successfully delivered Flightdeck® Balconies fitted to the precast façade and contributing to the aesthetics and functionality of the buildings.
EQC’s chosen powder coating solution of Akzo Nobel QUALICOAT Class Two in RAL3005 Burgundy and RAL6013 Sage, enhanced the durability and appearance of the balconies all processed to BS EN12206, using chrome free pre-treatments designed to withstand the demands of London’s urban environment.
Elephant Park has set ambitious sustainability goals, aiming for net-zero carbon emissions by 2025 and absolute zero by 2040. The collaboration between Brooksby and EQC aligns with these targets by delivering high-quality, long-lasting balcony solutions that contribute to the project’s green and sustainable vision.
Market Influence:
EQC has seen unprecedented demand for its Chrome free and QUALICOAT accredited powder coating systems for balconies and balustrades. This is likely attributed not solely to the great service EQC offers, but also to the changing landscape in the market, driven by the United Kingdom’s Healthy Homes Bill. About to be introduced by the UK government, the Healthy Homes Bill is aimed at improving the standards of housing and promoting healthier living environments for people of the United Kingdom. One of the key areas the bill focuses on is balconies. These can serve as an extension of the internal living space and offer an area for residents to enjoy fresh air within their own personal environment.
EQC are already improving the appearance of balconies and working closely with specialists like Brooksby and the Elephant Park project, to ensure an efficient and professional service. Making balconies a more attractive and inviting space for all residents to enjoy.
The partnership between Brooksby and Euro Quality Coatings played a pivotal role in the success of the Elephant Park project. By providing innovative balcony solutions with top-quality powder coating finishes, they contributed to the transformation of Elephant and Castle into a sustainable, vibrant, and community-focused urban hub. This case study showcases the power of collaboration in delivering excellence in construction and urban development projects.
